Having a trained German Shepherd is a blessing! German Shepherds are great family dogs or dogs for a couple like us. We especially love how active the breed is – most German Shepherds like our girl, Sequoia need 2+ hours of exercise per day. It’s perfect for us since we love road-tripping with our dog to places that have hikes and lakes for her to swim in! Along the journey, we’ve captured tons of awesome pictures of our trained German Shepherd. In this article, we’ll share our favorite images of Sequoia and some insight after having a GSD for 5+ years.

Our Trained German Shepherd: Favorite Dog Trainer

We tried a few dog trainers including Petco puppy classes and more advanced private lessons that cost $1000 or more. After a few years of training with Sequoia, we found the most valuable lessons from our in-person and online dog trainer Zack Kiser from American Dog Pros. American Dog Pros is based in California and specializes in obedience training and competitive shows for dogs.

Our German Shepherd’s Puppy Pictures

Our German Shepherd’s puppy pictures are adorable! Sequoia was the cutest, most tiny little girl when we rescued her at 8 weeks old. We’re so glad we got tons of puppy pictures when she was little! She was the cutest German Shepherd Puppy!

Can German Shepherds Swim?

German Shepherds love to swim, especially our girl Sequoia! We take her to lakes in the mountains like Mammoth Lakes, California, or the High Uintas in Utah. Put a life jacket on your German Shepherd for their first few times swimming to help build their confidence.

Do German Shepherds Need Dog Sunglasses or Dog Goggles?

German Shepherds are prone to eye conditions like Pannus which can be negatively impacted by UV sun rays. Dog sunglasses and dog goggles like Rex Specs are helpful tools to combat the UV. We also love using Rex Specs dog sunglasses when hiking in the snow to avoid the bright white glare in her eyes. Another bonus is that you have extra peace of mind when your dog is playing fetch with sticks or running through bushes and brush.

German Shepherd Shedding

German Shepherd shedding is a concern for a lot of dog owners. From our experience, German Shepherds shed a lot – especially if they are long-haired German Shepherds. You’ll want to have a consistent vacuuming schedule and a powerful vacuum to combat how much German Shepherds shed.
